Spring is coming and healthy eating

For those of you have read any number of posts here on the Carnivore and the Vegetarian, you’ll definitely know that I, the Carnivore, am never shy about telling you how much I love pork belly and other delicious ways to eat mr. pig. While pork belly is the most delicious thing in the world, it is extremely unhealthy. Recipes that I post on this blog are a mix of really bad for you, eat delicious dishes and vegetables focused dishes that when eaten in moderation, are healthful.

With spring coming, and only about 6 week until my CSA starts, it is time to try and focus more on dishes that lack a certain animals belly. This doesn’t mean that I’m going to start posting recipes for salads (though I have in the past), but maybe a little less on the overly fattening cuts of meat. I don’t eat much red meat at home, just when I eat out, but I am going to try and cut out red meat altogether for a while. And not just red meat. I am looking to cut out fried food as well. That is probably a lot harder than red meat. Crispy delicious french fried potatoes are one of my favorite things in the world. But for now, I will be saying bon voyage to the french fry, the onion ring, deep fried snickers bar (yea, I haven’t had one since I was in Scotland 3 years ago) and anything else that falls into this category.

I don’t plan to go Vegetarian, though that may change for Meatless May (I haven’t decided yet), but eating a bit more healthy is the way to go. Mark Bittman often talks about only eating meat at dinner time, avoiding it for breakfast and lunch. This isn’t a bad idea and something that I think would be adaptable for me. Anyway, the point is, I am going to try and post food that is delicious, but not drenched in oil and loaded with bad pork parts.

About Evan

I like to eat. I like to cook. I like to eat what I cook. Now, I will share with you what I like to cook. My wife and I may be a vegetarian and a carnivore, but it doesn’t mean we can’t cook a nice meal with both, without compromising taste. I will share my creative meals of the Carnivore and the Vegetarian.
