It’s Almost Spring….the time to eat and drink outside

Guess what’s coming in just a few weeks?  No, it’s not the grand opening of a Mario Batali Restaurant in DC, we should be so lucky.  I’m talking about spring and with spring comes gardens, farmers markets, csa’s (which I have talked about a lot, maybe too much for some) and finally outdoor seating at restaurants and bars.  There are very things that beat putting back a cold brew and munching on some delicious grub.  Yea, I suppose making your own food and seating on your own porch, but I’ll need a porch first.
While I don’t particularly enjoy the gross humidity Washington DC summer’s entail, I do love spring and fall outdoor eating (who am I kidding, I’ll do the same in the summer).  There are restaurants with outdoor seating littered, in a good way, all over across fair city.  This weekend it’s supposed to jump to into the 50’s in DC and I hope to enjoy a nice meal outside for once.
Now you’re probably thinking, “great, he tells me I can eat outside, so what, what has he done for me lately.”  Well, in the spirit of this burgeoning eating city, I will provide some of my favorite places to eat outside.  I actually got a great idea from the Endless Simmer blog, which has a great google map, pinned with restaurants offering specials, events etc.  I don’t intend to steal their map, so I made my own, pinned up with outdoor eating hotspots.  Feel free to send in your own places to enjoy a cold one or an appletini outside…

About Evan

I like to eat. I like to cook. I like to eat what I cook. Now, I will share with you what I like to cook. My wife and I may be a vegetarian and a carnivore, but it doesn’t mean we can’t cook a nice meal with both, without compromising taste. I will share my creative meals of the Carnivore and the Vegetarian.

Love the map! I have saved maps for where I want to eat in DC, and specific ones for upcoming travel. I've come across an issue though, I can't view them on the iPhone, because instead of seeing it in a browser it goes right to the Google Map App and loses the pins. But I digress.

I use Capital Spice's map all the time: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&gl=us&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=117013112445532069246.00046d9a800743d388f45

  2. Thanks. I make these whenever I go out of town to somewhere new as well. Great for remembering all the places I want to go…that and Yelp.

Wow — that is a great map! how do they get the different colors and forks!!

And a few additions off the top of my head: People watching at Faccia Luna & Boulevard Woodgrill (for food, brunch is best at BW), Evening Star Cafe (you feel like you're in a real Main St kind of neighborhood, and walk to DG for dessert), and Straits of Malaya (roof!).

  4. Great, thanks. Will add those and any others people suggest. As you can tell, I have less VA places…
